Abstract Expressionism - Memoir

This series explores my childhood through to current age, where I moved across Canada with my dysfunctional family, living in 27 different places before the age of 18 from Nova Scotia to Northwest Territories to Alberta and finally BC. I used several layers of locally gathered sawdust, moss, and sand along with acrylics and plaster, finished with multiple layers of newspaper, photos, and poems I wrote.

The mixed-media distressed technique shows how each experience we have and each place we live in leaves a mark, and through the imperfection of life and the wounds left behind there is beauty, light, and hope.
